Verandahs are constructed for many reasons and serve various purposes. Many people may only know a few uses of verandah such as using it as a porch or cover over a doorway; it actually adds beauty and value to your house. Depending on the needs and space available for the verandah, the owner may choose from different types where he can sit, relax and enjoy the natural view.
Types of Verandahs
Once you know the space you have around your house, you can always choose from different types of verandahs designs on the market. Different designs and structures are explained below.
It is a single pitch Verandah, usually attached to an existing structure (the most simple and versatile design). The low cost, adaptability, and flexibility of easy extension/expansion give it an edge over other Verandah types. Furthermore, there is no limitation to the kinds of shapes you can design.
There are different types of verandah within the flat structure as Pergola Verandah, Bull Nose Verandah, Concave Verandah and Convex Verandah.
The Pergola Verandah is best for open-air settings. The Bull Nose Verandah is with a curved end and usually used for protection for an entrance or a larger area or a front porch. Its design can add style and value to the home.
The convex rafters are usually constructed in Timber. A simple Flat Verandah can be constructed using either Timber or Metal.
The look and smooth flowing lines of a Curved Verandah will add value and sophistication to your home. The roof structure is curved and usually constructed using metal. It can be used to cover areas for entry or entertaining. The roofing can be Deck, Corrugated or Skylights (presenting a wonderful view from the Verandah). The cost of a Curved Verandah is moderate as compared to Gable verandah.
A Gable Verandah is pitch structured with triangular vertical ends. Like Flat verandah, Gable Verandah too has further types like Hip end Gazebo Verandah and Heritage or Dutch Gable Verandah.
With enduring style and versatility, it offers two styles, Traditional and Dutch Gable with long spans and long lengths whereas Hip end Gazebo Verandah add dimensions (complementing the architecture of your home). Its high roof lines give the feeling of a larger area.
For its high price, Gable Verandah can be constructed using Metal or Timber with rafters or trusses, Gable infills, Skylights and double sided Colorbond roofing. It can be used for vehicle storage, entertaining area cover or entry way cover.
Different style Verandahs are available to compliment your home but it is always useful to consult a professional who can assist you in choosing the style that would benefit you the most.
